Another Michelin star rated restaurant, “Elizabeth”, resides in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood, which is easily accessible via the Brown Line. The restaurant's chef and owner Iliana Regan calls her unique style midwestern farm to table style “New Gathering” and named the restaurant after her beloved sister who passed away. She says you need to have an open mind and palate to try new things. Regan states she never had a chef mentor and is self taught. She started out as a dishwasher at the ripe age of 15. The unique menu features seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as proteins from local farmers. On the menu you will notice some unorthodox options such as wild sassafras, deer hearts, ants, flowers, or even frogs she spears for herself. There's a dynamic range of food and other more familiar foods are showcased as well. The current menu lineup goes under the title “Early Fall 2018: Nightmare Nostalgia” On the current autumn menu you'll see some interesting menu items such a hen of the woods, chicken heart, classic escargot, cricket flour spaetzel, rabbit rillet, and bubblegum ice cream. Regan has received many accolades in addition to being a Michelin rated restaurant for the last 5 years she has always been recognized as having a top restaurant dish in “Time Out Chicago” for 100 Best Dishes, Chicago Magazine' Best New Restaurant in 2013, and many other awards including best restaurant of the year for “Chicago Reader's” “Best Overall Restaurant” in 2017. IIiana Regan has quickly become a food pioneer in Chicago and currently has other productions including “Kitsune: Restaurant & Pub” which features 5 course meals, and the “Bunny & Bakery Workshop” which is currently in the works. If that wouldn't keep a human busy enough Regan also currently teaches cooking classes to motivated chefs who are open minded to learn a truly one of a kind style.
